Post 7/1/19 Study-finds-Healing-Touch-therapy-reduces-pain-and-anxiety By DeSiree Fawn

Ketchum, Id. ( KMVT / KSVT ) – Healing Touch therapy is at least as effective as traditional nursing care for reduction in pain and reducing anxiety, according to a study published in the Journal of Holistic Nursing.

Healing Touch therapy is administered by trained therapists who work with the energy field surrounding the patient’s body.

“We hear about the energy that’s given off by electrical lines, or just even how our phones work. You know we all have our cell phones these days, so, it doesn’t seem too crazy that we pick that up and it’s not connected to any line or anything, but yet it works. So it’s those same kind of energies that make those things work that we have around our bodies as well,” said Mary Kay Foley, a Healing Touch therapist.

Healing Touch therapy is offered at St. Luke’s Wood River. They say you don’t have to be sick to seek the therapy and it benefits just about everyone. They also offer a class so you can learn how to give the healing touch on your own.

“I was very interested in experiencing it and that particular day I was on the verge of a migraine headache and it was really amazing. Just a tension headache. You know, we carry a lot of tension here in our shoulders, goes up my neck and into my head. Just the warm, relaxed stress free feeling I had once it was over was just amazing, and it did not go into a migraine headache,” said Deb Hobart, Manager of Volunteer Services for St. Luke’s.

St. Luke’s says Healing Touch is actively being used in over 40 hospitals and other healthcare facilities across the country.

Foley says as medicine becomes increasingly high–tech, it is important to maintain the human connection and care for the whole person.

KD was a 70 year old client of mine with arthritis in her right knee. For awhile pain was controlled by sessions with me and her self-care of pain management techniques I taught her. Eventually she required a Total Knee Replacement. She asked her surgeon if I could be in the operating room during the surgery. The hospital had a policy that wouldn’t allow this. They did however give me, as a RN, permission to be with her in the Recovery Room. They called me in as she as she arrived. Her surgeon had told the staff what I was going to do and they were all excited to learn more! I explained the energy of pain and pain ridge present when the body has been cut. Eight nurses came over to feel the pain ridge three feet above KD’s knee. They were amazed they could really feel it! I showed them Magnetic Passes: Hands in Motion for clearing. When they reassessed their eyes grew big as their  hand moved from three feet down to only two inches! The unit nurses noted she required pain meds less often than usual after the nerve block was discontinued. KD was discharged home a day ahead of schedule! She completed Physical Therapy in only four weeks and was walking in the Smokey mountains six weeks post-op! A couple of RN’s from the hospital attended one of my Level 1 classes.

My Earliest Experience with Healing Energy by Ann Marie O’Malley, RN, HTCP-I

My journey began in 1995 when I discovered the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA). I said to myself “I have always held a holistic focus, I’ll sign up to be a member.” When the information arrived, there was also a brochure for a class called “Healing Touch”. I felt called to take it.

I attended the class and had an amazing experience! I could actually feel the energy of others, without touching them with my hands. I was also aware of subtle changes within me as others were doing treatments on me, also without physical contact. I had carried much tension in my upper back and shoulders for years. My husband would regularly try to massage it out but was unable to do so. While I was lying face-up on a massage table another student performed a technique on me called “Magnetic Clearing”. With her hands in the energy field over me she pulled energy from 12 inches above the top of my head, down through my body to a foot below my feet, without any physical contact, for 15 minutes. I could feel things moving in my back. When I sat up on the table afterward, I could feel an incredible warmth in my back as blood was now flowing into muscles that it couldn’t get into before! I also had a sense that as she released the energy from my field, that it was transformed into butterflies now flying free! (That moment is what led me to later name my business: The Chrysalis Healing Center, Inc., A Safe Haven for Transformation.)

When my husband greeted me on my arrival home I asked him to feel my back. “What happened? Your muscles aren’t tight anymore!” He was amazed as I was!

Healing Touch techniques offer so many ways to relieve pain, tension, calm stress and so much more. This is a simple method called Magnetic Passes: Hands in Motion. First become grounded and centered by imagining yourself as a tree with your roots deep into the earth. Draw the energy up into your body and out the crown of your head. Set your intention for relief. Feel the energy in your hands. With your hands open and your palms facing the area of pain or tension, softly brush down and away from your body thru the space 1-3 inches above your pain. You may use your hands simultaneously or one hand first and then the other hand, brushing the pain away. Continue for a few minutes until you feel relief.
